The smart phone app is able to send pictures, videos, and stream live incidents in progress. City councilman, Ricky Burgess, has proposed a legislation that would authorized the city to spend up to $10,000 in acquiring rights to use the mobile app that would enable police and private investigators to get information from crime witnesses. Individuals can use the program to notify law enforcement about suspected cases of murders, robbery, child abuse, animal abuse, rape, domestic violence, assault, and other crimes. Users can use the app to stream a live incident, and the app would automatically transmit the location’s map to local authorities. Witnesses can choose to stay anonymous or be identified, when providing any crime related information.
Sentiguard has been developed by the company called Optivon, Inc, which is located in Puerto Rico. Thousands of people, that are located there, have used the app, and has provided numerous helpful tips to the police, in order to assist them with crime related incidents. The CEO of Optivon, Inc, and the developer of the mobile app, Luis Romero, said that one of the family members, who was the victim of a crime, has told him that he had saved his life.
The smart phone app would cost the city of Pittsburgh $1,000 per year for the basic program, with $10,000 for added enhancements. However, the smart phone app is free to use for the public. The enhancement feature includes being able to send in a live stream of the incidents in progress, in addition to sending in photos, videos, and location information.
